Next Wednesday, June 29, SFO will break ground for the new Terminal 1 project, which will include a new central check-in and security area, baggage claim, and a corridor to the AirTrain station, which two new boarding areas. B/A B, originally built in 1963 (with upgrades on the eastern satellite by TWA for their 747s in the 70s, among other additions) will be demolished, and B/A C (from the 80s) may be demolished also).
A temporary boarding area will open as a replacement until 2020.
"With each facility enhancement, we continue to build on central themes, such as guest-focused design, creative displays of public art, local business participation, and environmental sustainability," John Martin, Airport Director.
The project will cost 2.4 billion. This will be the last stage of the airport's capital improvement plan of 4.1 billion.
The new Terminal 1 will open sometime in 2020 and will most likely be LEED Gold Certified, like Terminal 2.
