Authorities have confirmed one person is dead after a small plane crashed into a house in Moss Beach near the Half Moon Bay Airport.

San Mateo County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sal Zuno said another person has been airlifted to a hospital.

The crash occurred around 11:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Park Avenue, Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Ian Gregor said. Witnesses said the plane flipped in mid-air and went straight down, hitting the roof of one home and landing on another.
No one was at home when the plane crashed.

The FAA said the plane was on approach to the Half Moon Bay Airport from Sacramento.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, is registered to a flying club out of Sacramento.

No other information was immediately available and an investigation is ongoing.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) --
Firefighters and airport officials say this is a first. An apparent malfunction caused a massive spill of foam that is used to fight fires. The spill was so massive that it blocked a street behind the San Jose International Airport.

One witness said, "It looks like a huge foam party gone bad."

At one point the foam was at least ten feet high, oozing out of the building.

It looked so fun to one man that he got lost in it after asking police for permission to ride his bike through it.

"It just feels like soap," he said. Yeah it just feels like soap. Kind of smells like it too."

He wasn't entirely wrong, there is one difference: this foam is for putting out fires and it's made to coat the surface of liquids like gasoline.

Officials warned against getting the substance near your eyes, as it can cause irritation so they encouraged people to not go near the foam.

The spill enveloped an entire city block, oozing out of the San Jose airport's newest private jet hangar.

It was finished a year ago, just in time to host the teams that played in the Super Bowl.

A spokesperson for the company that runs it says no one was hurt when the fire suppression system suddenly activated, filling the empty space and street outside with foam.

Now that company is responsible for the cleanup.

Six days a week, Quincy Carr sits in his wheelchair on a concrete island in Oakland, wrangling business for Ramos Furniture in front of signs reading “all must go” and “no reasonable offers will be refused.”
But it wasn’t always this way for the 32-year-old Oakland man, who calls out on a bullhorn to the sea of cars zipping down Hegenberger Road near Oakland International Airport.

A decade ago, he was on track to become a commercial pilot and one day get his instructor’s license to teach other aspiring aviators. That all came to a screeching halt when a dispute at an Oakland barbershop turned violent, leaving him shot multiple times and paralyzed from the waist down.

But on Monday, an Oakland firefighters’ charity, city officials and even retired Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger presented Carr with a scholarship to help on his quest to get back in the cockpit of a Cessna 172 and teach others how to fly.

“I’m very excited,” Carr beamed Monday after being surprised with a $10,000 check toward the completion of his instructor training.

“My passion is flying,” he said. “And if you’re not doing your passion, what are you doing?”

The idea to present Carr with the award came six months ago when Oakland police Sgt. Clay Burch wondered about the man he’d see every day working along Edgewater Drive in the shadow of the Oakland airport BART extension.

One day while on a break, Burch approached Carr and asked about his story. He soon learned that 10 years ago Carr had been getting his hair cut and intervened when he saw man assaulting a woman.

That man left the barbershop, only to return with a gun. The gunman shot Carr five times, including a bullet in the spine that took his ability to walk, Burch said.

“Quincy was a victim of violent crime,” Burch said. “He’s a special young guy, and he shared with me that he wanted to become a flight instructor.”

Carr never quit flying, and when he finds time, he pilots a retrofitted Cessna with hand-rudder controls instead of the usual foot pedals. But his job with the furniture store and the one day a week he plays piano at a Union City hotel make finding the time and money to complete his instructor certification nearly impossible.....Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Gift-puts-paralyzed-Oakland-pilot-s-dream-is-10599496.php#photo-11768460

BOSTON – A father is being called the “dad of the year” for what he did on a cross-country flight Monday.
He felt bad that his young daughter had to be on a plane during Halloween night, so he found a way to make it super special for the little girl, who was dressed as a doughnut.
According to fellow passenger Stephanie Kahan, the father passed out candy to all the passengers on a flight from Boston’s Logan Airport to San Francisco International Airport Monday evening.
He included a note to explain the gesture:
Happy Halloween!
My 3-year-old daughter, Molly, was bummed that she wouldn’t be able to go trick-or-treating this year due to this flight… so I decided to bring trick-or-treating to her. If you are willing, when my little donut comes down the aisle, please drop this in her basket. You’ll be making her Halloween! If you’re unwilling, no worries, just pass the treat back to me. Thanks so much!
Then, he brought his 3-year-old daughter Molly down the aisle to trick-or-treat.
Kahan tweeted out the pics of the awesome gesture so that we can all know what a “dad of the year” looks like.
