CRANNELL, Calif. — Four bodies were recovered from a medical transport plane that crashed early Friday in a densely forested mountain range in Northern California after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit, authorities said.
The Piper PA31 was carrying a flight nurse, a transport medic and a patient about 360 miles from Crescent City, near the Oregon border, to Oakland when the pilot declared an emergency around 1 a.m.
The pilot planned to return to Crescent City but the plane vanished from radar 5 miles north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport on the far northern coast, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.​

(KRON) — Southwest Airlines has canceled hundreds more flights on Friday as the airline works to restore service after a system-wide technology outage on Wednesday.
As of Friday morning, about 300 flights had been canceled mainly due to flight crews being displaced as a result of the outage.
As of 11:30 a.m., numerous departures and arrivals have been canceled at Oakland International Airport and Mineta San Jose Airport. There have been just a couple of cancellations at San Francisco International Airport.
According to KRON4’s Dan Kerman at Oakland International Airport Friday afternoon, the cancellations are continuing and already 65% of the flights are delayed.
The technology glitch has been repaired and airline officials are working to restore the network operations that include not only the technology but the scheduling of flights and crews.
