When I called him, Mavrogenes contended that renaming the airport was part of an effort to promote Stockton’s image.
“One of the questions that people ask is, “Where is Stockton?’’ he told me. “Some think it’s up by the border with Oregon. Some think it’s near Bakersfield.’’
I was too polite to ask him how allying the airport with San Francisco would clarify the matter of location, but Mavrogenes quickly pointed out that other airports have done the same....
